Project Overview
Enbridge Gas is proposing to construct the Guelph Tie-Over Project (Cooper Road, Hamilton) (the Project) in the City of Hamilton.
The Project is being proposed in response to system reliability concerns associated with the nominal pipe size (NPS) 26-inch pipeline.
The Project will connect to Enbridge Gas' existing NPS 48-inch transmission pipeline to the existing NPS 26-inch Trafalgar pipeline system through connections at existing stations.

The Preliminary Preferred Route (PPR) would involve the installation of approximately 1.2 kilometres (km) of up to NPS 12-inch natural gas pipeline from the existing Enbridge Gas take-off station near 8th Concession Road, traveling approximately 1.1 km along Cooper Road, then connecting to an existing Enbridge Gas valve site near Safari Road.
One alternative route is currently being considered for the Project:

The Alternative Route (AR) would involve the installation of approximately 1.37 km of up to NPS 12-inch natural gas pipeline from the existing Enbridge Gas take-off station near 8th Concession Road connecting into an existing Enbridge Gas valve site near Safari Road. The pipeline would travel west for 64 metres (m) before turning south and running through an agricultural field before turning east along Safari Road for 110 m to connect to the existing Enbridge Gas valve site.
Enbridge Gas has retained Dillon Consulting Limited to undertake an Environmental Study for the project. The study is being conducted in accordance with the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) Environmental Guidelines for the Location, Construction, and Operation of Hydrocarbon Projects and Facilities in Ontario, 8th Edition (2023).
The study will undertake engagement to understand the views of interested and potentially affected parties; consult with Indigenous communities to understand interests and potential impacts; identify potential impacts of the project, develop environmental mitigation and protective measures to avoid or reduce potential impacts; and develop an appropriate environmental inspection, monitoring and follow-up program.
Once the study is complete, Enbridge Gas plans to file a Leave to Construct application with the OEB in 2027. Pending receipt of all approvals, construction may begin in Q3 2027.
